Improved retention, employee happiness, and work outcomes by shifting onboarding and culture

BRIEF SUMMARY

A rapid-growth-stage startup was quickly onboarding a number new employees and contracted Project Startup to create a sustainable workflow that would reduce employee stress, increase retention, and improve work outcomes.

THE PROBLEM/PROJECT

As new employees were being added rapidly to the company there was a mashup of how to get things done. The company needed to create their own culture around how to get things done and how to respect their employee’s time and skill sets.

THE SOLUTION

Project Startup started by interviewing the existing employees to understand their previous work experiences and preferences for getting work done. We collected qualitative and quantitative data to present to the founders. We then created three variations of a plan we thought that would work and presented them in small focus groups. With this feedback we altered the plans and then presented them again in a company wide meeting. We then created an implemented a transition plan for the company and monitored the transition for 6 months. Finally, we created an onboarding plan for all new hires.

CONCLUSION

The new system of getting things done increased employee happiness. The company was also able to onboard new employees smoothly into the culture of how they got tasks done, resulting in a 100% retention rate during our time together, happier employees, and better work outcomes.
